CBC News recently reported on findings from a recent Nielsen study that used the Perception Analyzer dial testing to gauge real-time feedback on a variety of policies and issues presented in Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s budget speech. The dial testing was conducted using two viewer groups: one in Toronto and one in Montreal. Nielsen conducted this most recent research on behalf of Finance Canada.

Per the CBC News article, this is the second year running that Morneau’s department has used Perception Analyzer dial testing to gauge how well messaging in the budget speech is received. Per the article, “A spokesperson for Finance Canada said dial-testers ‘elicit honest feedback.’ The method ‘combines the qualitative insights of a focus group with the quantitative precision of a survey,’ Fannie Ouellette said, adding this was the only public-opinion research the department commissioned to gauge the impact of Morneau’s budget.”
